The Ourense University Hospital Complex (CHUO) has undergone a major expansion and modernization thanks to an investment of 58 million euros by the Galician Government. This initiative has made it possible to apply new technological and healthcare advances in the hospitalization area, which has turned the CHUO into a "true living lab of reference in Europe in the healthcare sector". The expansion and modernization has focused on the construction of a new hospitalization tower with capacity for 900 beds, nine of them multipurpose medical-surgical, one for psychiatry, palliative care, oncology and two experimental units, as well as a block of general services and a parking area with a total of 700 parking spaces.
The Galician Government earmarked 58 million euros for the execution of the hospitalization works corresponding to the expansion of the Ourense University Hospital Complex (CHUO), co-financed by the Hospital-2050 project, which will involve an increase of around 54,000 square meters.
This investment has made it possible to apply new advances in the hospitalization area, both in the field of ICT and health technologies, turning the CHUO into a "true living lab of reference in Europe in the health sector".
The expansion and modernization has been carried out mainly in the execution of the hospitalization area, the general services block and the parking lot, intended for the center's staff and users.
The new hospitalization tower will have fourteen units, of which nine will be multipurpose medical-surgical units, one for psychiatry, palliative care, oncology and two experimental units. In total, it will have a maximum capacity of 900 beds. It will have a teaching area, cafeterias for the public and staff, an admissions department and a lobby.
The new general services include kitchen, maintenance, changing rooms, waste area, mortuary and storage areas.
The parking area is divided into three floors, with a total of 700 parking spaces.
