Club Atlético de Madrid's new stadium, Wanda Metropolitano, is nearing completion of its remodeling. Designed by Estudio Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos, it will have a capacity for 68,000 people, 14,000 more than the Vicente Calderón. It will be equipped with giant screens and a 360 LED ribbon board, making it the first all-LED stadium in the world. The suspended wave-shaped roof, designed by the engineering firm Schlaich Bergermann Partner, consists of two large rings. The seats will alternate red and white to reflect the spirit of the athletic team. In addition, it will feature VIP areas such as the city's most modern convention center, terrace rooms, premium suites and an auditorium with capacity for 400 guests.
The new Club Atlético de Madrid stadium, popularly known as La Peineta and formally called Wanda Metropolitano, is nearing completion of its remodeling phase. Commissioned to Estudio Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos. The new home of the red and white team will be equipped with three giant screens in the stands area and an exclusive and pioneering 360º ribbon board in soccer stadiums throughout Spain. It will be the first fully LED stadium in the world that will turn every event into an unforgettable spectacle. Personalized with the corporate colors, it will make attendees vibrate with impressive projections.
The suspended wave-shaped roof, on which the engineering firm Schlaich Bergermann Partner is also working, consists of two large rings. The first is a double outer perimeter ring in the form of a three-dimensional double truss that solves a large part of the tension problem of the pure geometrical roof. A second central double traction ring collects part of the loads of the roof and tensions it, giving rise to a huge roof that is clearly the signature of the project. Following the analogy of engineering itself, the tire will be a bicycle wheel that will stay in place thanks to the traction of each and every one of the spokes that compose it. To cover this wheel, a series of very thin sheets of fiberglass covered with Teflon are arranged, making this a very light cover weighing no more than 30 kg/m2. and with a surface area of 46,500 square meters. This covering will vibrate and amplify the acoustics of the stadium, turning it into a real "pressure cooker". What is probably the most loyal and combative fan base in Spain will finally have a place that will surely make visiting teams and fans tremble.
It will have a capacity of 68,000 people, i.e., it will be able to accommodate up to 14,000 more than the Vicente Calderón, and its seats will alternate red and white colors to give it even more of an Atlético spirit.
It will also have the so-called Wanda Metropolitano Zones, covering more than 11,000 m2 of VIP spaces conceived as the most modern Convention Center in the city. Atlético de Madrid's new stadium will have rooms with terraces and the best views of the pitch, 22 multifunctional spaces (from 250 to 3,500 m2), an auditorium with capacity for 400 guests and premium suites.
