La Palma Airport in the Canary Islands is a transit point for millions of travelers arriving from all over the world. With a runway that has been extended several times, a brand new control tower and a new passenger terminal, the airport has undergone constant improvements to make the place safer and more pleasant. The new terminal, distributed over eight glazed floors with panoramic terraces, offers passengers a unique experience to enjoy the island's scenery. In addition, it has several facilities that round out the traveler's experience, including a children's playground, medical services room, and a lost and found office, among others. Not surprisingly, the airport organizes guided tours for schoolchildren, where they even have the opportunity to participate in aerial baptisms.
Managed by AENA, La Palma Airport is located between the municipalities of Breña Baja and Villa de Mazo, at a distance of eight kilometers from the center of Santa Cruz de la Palma. It is a strategic enclave through which 1,200,000 passengers from all over the world pass every year. Although this new airport operates mainly with domestic flights, international flights also take off and land there.
If there is one thing that characterizes this airport, it is its constant drive to improve. So much so that its single runway (2,200 meters) has been extended on several occasions and now includes a new passenger terminal, a brand new control tower and much improved signage. Adjustments such as these have not only made the airport a safer and more pleasant place, but also increased its capacity by more than two million passengers.
The new terminal occupies more than 95,000 square meters and is distributed over eight glazed floors with panoramic terraces that allow passengers to enjoy the island's scenery. In addition, in its more functional aspects, it incorporates a greater number of check-in counters and baggage claim belts. It also has several facilities that round out the traveler's experience -children's playground, medical services room, Civil Guard office and lost and found office, among others-. As a curiosity, like many other airports managed by AENA, La Palma airport organizes guided tours for schoolchildren through its facilities, who sometimes even participate in aerial baptisms.
