The new University Hospital of Toledo is already in the final stretch of its construction. Although, as of today, only the structural skeleton of the building can be seen, the HUTE responsible for the project (Acciona, OHL, Dragados.) plans to complete the project in 2019.

Thus, the capital of La Mancha will have a new health center to assist its citizens in the region. The new hospital has been divided into four construction zones, each with a completely different director and work team.

So far, the work, which began in March 2017, has focused more on demolition than construction. Attending and redesigning the complex to the guidelines of the new Functional Plan of the government of Castilla-La Mancha, has caused the project to be delayed.

The new Toledo University Hospital will cost some 300 million euros, according to health officials. Today, it employs more than 330 workers, of which 67 are technicians and the rest are site personnel from the construction companies responsible. However, this number of workers will rise to 500 in November and to more than 1,000 in 2018 in order to finish the project on time.

This new hospital will improve the care services provided at the Virgen de la Salud Hospital, increasing the number of ICU positions from 47 to 62, post-anesthesia resuscitation units from 15 to 52, operating rooms from 26 to 39, as well as the number of day hospital beds, which will increase from 95 to 120.

From Impernor Asbitra y asociados S.L., we would like to thank Dragados, S.A., Acciona, S.A., and OHL, S.A., for the opportunity and trust they have given us to work with them in this new project that will benefit the daily life of the inhabitants of Toledo, increasing the health care service in the community.

We have extensive experience in the development of large hospital complexes such as the ones we are currently working on, the University Hospital of Salamanca, the Chuo University Hospital in Orense or the prestigious University Clinic of Navarra in Madrid, soon to be inaugurated.

Impernor Asbitra y asociados S.L. is proud to be part of the construction of this new hospital complex, being in charge of the waterproofing and insulation works of the 247,000 square meters of the new hospital which, in the words of the president of the community Mr. Emiliano García-Page, is "the largest civil work in Castilla-La Mancha".

Old prisons that were but are no longer

Penitentiary centers have been innovative buildings, symbols of demands or temporary lodgings for illustrious prisoners. Today, many of them no longer exist and, if they do, they have greatly changed their function. We delve into the history of four of them: La Modelo in Barcelona, La Modelo in Madrid, Carabanchel and the Women's Prison in Ventas.
