Acciona will inaugurate in Madrid in June 2022 a project for the comprehensive recovery of an old gas plant built in 1905 by the architect Luis de Landecho Jordán. The project includes the refurbishment of the historic engine shed and two outbuildings integrated into a 2,400 square meter green space. The building meets the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency.
June 2022 saw the inauguration in Madrid of a unique integration and regeneration project, and the most important rehabilitation work we have done in 2022.
The building, an integral recovery project of an old gas plant built in 1905 by the architect Luis de Landecho Jordán, was one of the emblems of the city's economic expansion at the beginning of the 20th century.
Its main building, the old engine shed, is the most representative image. However, in addition to the historic building, there are two annex buildings integrated in an environment of 2,400 square meters of green areas (ceded for public use to the Madrid City Council) that communicate directly with the Méndez Álvaro Station.
Ombú has a Planetary Ecological Footprint of 1.0, meaning that its carbon emissions will be absorbed by the earth's current capacity. The building has an energy rating that meets the European Commission's Nearly Zero Energy Consumption Building standards and is pre-certified LEED Platinum. In addition, it is equipped for the WELL gold level wellness standard and registered for Net Zero Energy certification by the International Living Future Institute in the USA.
In collaboration with the architectural firms Foster + Partners and Ortiz-León, ACCIONA has carried out a careful and comprehensive refurbishment to convert it into a unique office complex with the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency.
