At Impais we are proud to be part of one of the major urban infrastructure projects currently underway in the city of Madrid: the extension of Metro Line 11, a strategic intervention that seeks to transform metropolitan mobility, improve connections between districts and decongest some of the most saturated lines of the network.

The section we are currently working on runs between Plaza Elíptica and Conde de Casal, with one of its key points at Atocha station, a key enclave not only for the metro, but also for Cercanías, long-distance trains and international connections. This phase of the project is being executed by the joint venture formed by Rover Group, Acciona Construcción y Dragados (ACS Group)with whom we collaborate.

An ambitious project that connects the city

The new Line 11 will cross Madrid diagonally, from Cuatro Vientos to Valdebebas and Terminal 4 of the airport, connecting up to seven major interchanges and more than 20 stations. This reconfiguration will reduce travel times, ease the burden on lines such as 6, 10 and 1, and offer a real alternative to the use of private vehicles.

In this first phase, which is in full execution, five new or remodeled stations are being built, including Atocha, whose transformation will be key to the efficiency and experience of the future route.

Atocha, strategic node

The actions planned for Atocha represent a technical and logistical challenge of the highest level. The intervention includes:

  • New platforms and redistribution of vestibules to adapt them to the new passenger flows;

  • Accessibility improvements and intermodal connections;

  • Careful integration with the historical and cultural environment of the "Landscape of Light";

  • Relocation and relocation of the 11M memorial to a more visible and accessible space.

In addition, an informative area has been set up in the station itself to inform users about the development of the project, its route and objectives, thus reinforcing transparency and communication with the public.

Looking ahead

The section between Plaza Elíptica and Conde de Casal is scheduled for completion between 2027 and 2028. Once in operation, it will be one of the main links of the future diagonal that will transform Madrid's mobility.

We feel fortunate to be part of this collective challenge, in which institutions, engineering, architecture and execution work in coordination for a city that is more connected, more livable and more prepared for the future.
