The Gregorio Marañón Maternity and Children's Hospital is a work of architecture of great importance in the city of Madrid. Designed by the prestigious architect Rafael Moneo, this modern hospital is the result of the merger of two historic hospitals in the capital, and its main focus is on the patient. With a total built area of more than 50,000 square meters, the new hospital has an extensive maternal and infant emergency area, state-of-the-art technology in its operating rooms and neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. In addition, light is the main protagonist in its interior, creating a calm and mysterious atmosphere in its eight interior courtyards. All this makes the Gregorio Marañón Maternity Hospital a center of excellence in which the patient is the true central axis.

The Gregorio Marañón Maternity Hospital is a center of excellence that makes the patient the fundamental axis around which all hospital activity is designed. A modern hospital born from the merger of two hospitals deeply rooted in the history of Madrid: the former O'Donnell Maternity Hospital which, since 1956, has seen the birth of more than 300,000 Madrilenians; and the Children's Hospital which, since its foundation in 1969, has been a pioneer in the development of pediatrics and its specialties in our country.

The new Maternity and Children's Hospital of O'Donnell in Madrid, designed by architect Rafael Moneo. It combines the complexity of its dual functional condition, Maternity and Children's Hospital, which is resolved through a linked structure, placing its double access at its diagonal ends and at different levels that adapt to the conditions of the site. All the order arises from the exhaustive definition of the plant, arranged in a plot of bays that surround eight courtyards that organize the rooms, public spaces, rooms and medical units, creating a mysterious and calm interior atmosphere, where the light becomes the true protagonist of the space.

The total cost of the work, partially financed by the European Union, amounted to 92 million euros and has a total built area of 50,113 square meters, which will allow the new hospital to have 313 beds, of which 169 will be for pediatric hospitalization (neonatology, infants, preschoolers, adolescents, surgery and traumatology and isolation), 144 for obstetrics and gynecology hospitalization and another 30 beds in the day hospitalization area. In addition to having an extensive maternal and infant emergency area, a technical plant equipped with the latest advances in electromedical equipment for operating rooms, individual delivery rooms and neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, and high-tech operating rooms.
